The Culture Map by Erin Meyer

Deep down, one knows that there are #cultural nuances that influence business.
But, this one made me aware of so many #BlindSpots I never knew I had and how critical these are in this world of #multicultural#globalbusinesses.
If you miss some of these #cultural aspects, you might needlessly get offended by innocent but culture-specific ways of working.
This one made me re-check several of my assumptions.
E.g. Everyone says they like an #egalitarian and #nonheirchical office with #consenus based decision making. But, you might be surprised that this means very different things depending upon the cultural context.
And, you might surprise yourself with how often you may not like #consensus building the way it's done in different cultures.
Also, it opened my eyes to different ways of #persuading and offering #context and has made me aware of my #cultural peculiarities.
#Indians like me will find it interesting as we tend to be in one or the other extreme on most of these cultural scales.
Lastly, I also gained an appreciation for the #diversity of working styles - and I am sure it will make me pause before I rush to label a work colleague.
Do check it out.
For those who may not immediately realise, Erin Meyer is also the author of another excellent #business book - 'No Rules Rules' on Netflix's culture, along with Reed Hastings
